Google Play Store -- download reaches 100% and then stalls -- no install

My Phone: HTC One M8. I have an unlocked bootloader and root, but I'm running Marshmallow 6.20.654.3 (stock ROM with latest OTA updates).

Lately I've been experiencing a peculiar problem with the Google Play Store app. I'll select an app to install. The Play Store downloads the app. When it reaches 100%, it just stops. It doesn't go to the next step of installing. If I go into my recent apps list and close the Play Store app and then start it again, the install is triggered and the new app finally installs. Granted, the workaround gets the job done but this is a major PITA.

Attempting to fix this I did the following:
1) Cleared cache. That didn't work, so I then cleared Data and Cache. No joy.
2) I rebooted my phone and tried again. No change.
3) I uninstalled the Play Store app... which reverted to the stock app before updates. In that state, it still didn't work. Also, I couldn't manually update that app... had to wait for Android to realize it needed updating. But even after that, the problem didn't go away.

UPDATE:
I seem to have answered my own question. The cause of the problem was Lookout! It's a security & antivirus app that I had installed. When I disabled it, the delay was significantly reduced. Instead of taking minutes, it would just take about 20 seconds to go from 100% download to install start.
