Google play store has suddenly stopped working

How do I fix this it is popping up all the time it keeps saying "unfortunately google play store has stopped working

This is going to sound strange, but have you tried to reset app preferences? Settings>apps>menu>reset app preferences. Sometimes this clears up Google Play issues.
