When I go into setting -> Security and privacy, in updates, I see the '!' Next to google play system update July 1, 2022.

Then when I tap on it to check for updates, it says my device is current, yet the '!' Still there.

Any idea why?

As a fellow S22 owner it seems to be because that is an outdated version of Google Play system. Mine is dated October 1, 2022 and has the green check.

Did you limit or restrict internet access to any of your apps? Specifically Google apps but any apps in general too.

Have you disabled or manually put any apps to sleep? Again specifically Google apps but any apps in general.

Have you done all of the OTA updates that have been pushed to your device? This includes OS and security patch updates.

Have you gone into the Play Store and checked for app updates? Touch your profile pic>Manage apps & device>Update All.

I tried looking to see if I could find a version number for

I asked Google why it wasn't up to date and it took me to this article... https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct...ot-updating/&usg=AOvVaw31zVtyDkQGjvlSdIvzVgtW

I'm going to suggest that others on this site would disagree with the article's admonition to avoid side-loading the APK, since sometimes they even provide the link to the update.

I was in the same spot as the OP and side-loaded an update to October (was stuck on July). Later, and not related, I did a FDR for my phone and the update reverted back to July. I've since side-loaded the update to take me to November. For some reason, my bride's phone (also S22U unlocked) never got stuck in July.

It's all very confusing, and it's all VERY on brand for Google.

This works.
Did it myself a week ago.

would it consider side-loading? any downside doing this??

did you pick the latest one

Google Play services 22.48.55
11 variants

i downloaded it and it has the file type .apkm. when i try to update it, i got an error.

do i need to rename it to .apk or do something else to install this download?

What happens is it has different signatures so one that gives error doesn't match your device and you will have to try others , it's good to download APK mirror installer that way it installs all packages. No down side if you want to remove that version u go to apps>Google play services>3 Dot upper right corner tap and uninstall the update.

Read all the faq that are highlighted in APK mirror Screenshot_20221230_214348_Chrome.jpgScreenshot_20221230_214822_Chrome.jpg

wow, too bad there is no way to find out which one i need given there are 11 variants. i still don't know why some of us got stuck in the July update and not able to update the normal way.

Yeah it got stuck somehow, you can uninstall the current version then force stop see if it helps to update it then trying those APK

You can download droid hardware info to help decide which is correct View attachment 350586

hmm...am i correct in assuming one of those 11 variants got to be the correct one?

even with my current July version, i still get notifications to update other apps. i don't understand why the last major UI update from android 12 tp 13 did not include the latest google play services update

You see for my Fold 4 , I'll circle in my screenshot
