Google Search Bar

Is there a way to remove or hide the google search bar?

I believe its Settings > Apps > Google Search > Disable

This will hide it but the space is still not usable. If your OK with flashing stuff you can check out the root/hack section and someone posted a link to xda for some awesome mods to get the bar gone and have it be usable space.
