How do I get rid of it? I can't seem to hold and drag it to trash bin

You can't. You can install a third party launcher like Nova though.

What launcher are you using? I don't believe you can remove it on the stock Google now launcher.

The search bar is baked into the launcher. You would need to load a different one like Nova to get rid of it.
