Does staying signed into Google Talk use up tons of battery like other IM programs or does it use a push style notification system?

would also like to know this?

I am always signed in but it doesnt seem to drain anything at all...just my findings so far. If I am talking on it however, it definitely drains more

My observations are more or less the same. Just wondering if anyone has a definitive answer. It would be great to be able to leave it signed in since all other IM programs use extreme amounts of battery weather you are chatting on them or they are just idle in the background.

I will try leaving mine signed in all day and see if there is a noticeable difference.

Does anyone know the answer to the question of whether or not the app uses PUSH? I started leaving it signed in all the time, but also switched to an extended battery so it is hard for me to gauge whether or not staying signed in is having any affect.

I was having battery issues and one of the things i did was sign out of that. I cant answer if its PUSH or not, but it does like the battery.

Since were on the subject. If you shut off the device and turn it back on (power off completely) does it automatically sign you back in when you turn on the device? I have Automaticlaly Sign In unchecked but if i launch it it shows me signed in. So i sign out.
Just curious.

I have auto sign in uncheck also it still would automatically sign me in, I'M not sure is its push or not but it does seem to drain my battery. Yesterday I signed out of all IM's and set my email for manual sync I was able to get 14 and a half hours on one charge which is a record for me! LOL

Well, if it was a number of things you did to help your battery, then signing out is not necessarily helping battery life in a significant way.

Gtalk is Push. It uses almost no battery. It is the best mobile IM solution I've seen in regards to battery life.
