Has anyone ever had their real number exposed by Google Voice by mistake? I've been trying to make the switch over to Google Voice on the EVO as my exclusive number, but today when I called my wife's office extension, she asked me "what phone are you calling me from?". It showed my real phone number which not even she knew.

I called back three times and all three times she was able to tell me the correct number. When i dialed her cell phone it showed google voice number. I have google voice as the outbound calling number.

THe only thing i can think of is the fact that the number i dialed to reach her at work is an extension.

Interesting. I have it set up to prompt me every time, but haven't had that problem doing it that way.

I'm frantically trying to find information about this:

I went to Google help forums and found this:

At present, Google Voice supports neither dialing of nor forwarding to numbers with extensions.

What could of happened was your phone, for whatever reason, could not have had a data connection. In this event Google Voice can't place your call and your phone does, this happened to me. I noticed that I didn't get the GV pop up on my dialer (connecting to google voice box) and it just started dialing out.

I saw that I had no data connection for whatever reason. I called my VM, hung up, got my 3G back and GV then placed my call.

just had the same problem when I called my office phone just sitting here. If I go through hitting my extension it doesn't work if I dial directly it does.

The OP is talking about dialing out through GV.

Well the answer is already posted, Google voice does not currently support extensions. Good to know, I wasn't aware of this limitation.

google voice is really f'd up at the moment.

they went from invites only to full open enrollment, so theres issues with volume.

It causes people that ring me to get fast busy signals during peak times, which sucks because i use it as my primary contact for work.

I used it since it was grand-central and havent had issues until the last week or 2 when they got rid of the invite only system

Guys, you have to read what the OP is saying. His initial call wasn't dialed out via his Google Voice line, or if it was, it displayed his handset caller ID instead of his GV #.

What's really interesting is that his own wife didn't have his original number? Hmmmm... Is it reserved for the woman on the side? I'm just saying!

LOL.. funny.

I'm trying to have just one number and didn't even want to start handing out the second number to confuse her or anyone. One number where you can reach me anywhere is how it works.

I wanted to update this thread.

The final answer is this:

If i call this number using google voice like this:

1800-THE-IKEApp1pp2345 (My number will show up, the real number)

If i dial this way

1800-THE-IKEA (and manually wait to enter 1 and then the extension)... my google voice number will show.

Conclusively.... don't store extensions.

The real story may be that I have a job where i work with clients, that I want to control when they are able to reach me. So i needed to make sure i have a number where I could control. I didnt want to be in the position when I'm calling on number and giving out another.
