Google Voice Issues???

The HTC EVO 4G LTE is my first smart phone. Yippy!!!

I installed the Google Voice app and got it up and working but I noticed a couple of things and I'm hoping someone can tell me if this is normal. I did not and do not want to set up GV as a replacement for my phone's voicemail. Could that be causing the issues listed below?

  1. When I make an outgoing call from my cell and select "Call with Google Voice", the number I'm calling does not display on the screen during the call. A different number (202-556-0000) displays but the number I dialed does show in the call logs once the call is completed. I think the number that shows during the call is a GV system number. Is there anyway to make the phone show the number I dialed, during the call, instead of showing the 202-556-0000 number?
  2. I have set the GV app to "View and play voicemails from the phone call log" but they do not show up in the SmithMicro Visual Voicemail. It's really weird. The only time a GV voicemail shows in Visual Voicemail is when I select 'Decline' on an incoming call that was made to my GV number but when I listen to the message that's in Visual Voicemail, it's the message I, the receiver, hears when I click the 'Decline' button. Here's the message: "To send a voicemail press 2. To accept press 1. To send a voicemail press 2". It should be the message that the caller left but it's not. I can access the message the caller left by using the GV app but isn't that message supposed to also be available in Visual Voicemail?

1. I'm pretty sure when dialing out using Google Voice it's technically a call forwarding procedure so that's why you see that "random number." As far as I know there is no way to naitvely change that.

2. I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to do here, but you can only access GV messages through the app or the website.

Google voice IS a replacement for your Sprint voicemail. I tried it and didn't like it at all. I deleted it.

GV can be set up as a stand alone app to use your GV number and VM box separately from your phone. It is not a replacement for your Sprint VM.

That said,

1) Darth Mo is correct on this one. The number you see on your phone is not going to be the one that you called. However, the number that the person you are calling will see your GV number. If not, then you can change this in your settings from the GV website. http://www.google.com/voice. Once logged in, go into the "Calls" tab under settings. This is where all the settings for call handling are made.

2)That option does allow for you to view and play your GV VM's from the phones call log based on what I have Googled about it, but I have never played with it since I currently keep my GV and phone logs separate. Sorry I'm no help there.
