Google Voice on Verizon

I've been using GV for my voice mail for about a year. About a month ago I did a factory reset on my phone and when I tried reset my phone to forward my calls to my GV number it doesn't work anymore. I went to the Verizon store and they told me that GV is "not compatible" and that I should pay $2.99/month for visual voice mail. Is anyone else having trouble using GV on a Verizon LG G2?

I've had problems using it with Google+, so I froze G+ and it works again.
