Google Voice Voicemail Question

Not really a Rezound specific question, but has anyone else had trouble using Google Voices voicemail on their Verizon phone lately, used to be you could just dial *71<GV#>, *90<GV#>, and *92<GV#> and GV VM would pickup whenever Verizon's VM normally would even with Reject Call, and I know it worked a few months ago, but someone was trying to get ahold of me today and said when they called and it would just ring forever... When I looked into it, the call would be presented to my cell, then ring in limbo for like 3 rings with a "dirty" ringback tone, then ring my cell again and keep cycling like that. Tried it from a couple different phones and the result was always the same.

Tried restoring everything to VZW with *73, *900, *920 and then VZW's VM worked just fine, set it back up again with the above codes to go to GV VM and it repeated the same problem, presenting the call to my cell over and over. Really annoying and I like Google's transcription service, plus I never have to actually dial VM to get my messages, they are just in my GV app.

Anyone else having this issue?

I have run into that issue on my Rezound before. What fixed it for me was to set everything up for Google Voice then make a call using Google Voice. Making a call switched it from voicemail not working to everything working for me.

Give that a try and let me know if it works.

Hmmm... tried that, slightly better results, now if I reject a call to GVVM but only after the other party hears like 6 rings, but if I just let it ring or silence the ring, it rings my phone 4-5 times, then rings in limbo 4-5 rings, then rings my phone again and just keeps doing that. It is almost like the GVVM is not answering the call for some reason. Weird, back to VZW VM for now I guess, got any other ideas?

EDIT: Two or three more test calls and it inconsistently works, one time it picked up as expected, the other ones just kept being presented to my phone over and over. Very strange.

It might help to double check some of the settings for your phone and then reset the option to use GV VM by following the steps below.

1. From a full internet browser (not on your phone) go to your GV inbox, then click on settings.
2. You should see your mobile phone listed. Click on "Edit" under your mobile phone listing.
3. Click on "Advanced Settings".
4. At the bottom of the page look at the options for "Forwarding Options". Make sure "Go straight to voicemail" is checked.
7. Click on the "Save" button at the bottom of the page.
8. Dial *73 from your cellphone (do not dial *900 or *920).
9. Dial *71<GV#> from your cell phone (do not dial *90<GV#> or *92<GV#>).
10. Make a call from your cell phone using your GV number.

Those are the exact steps that I took to solve my issue and GV is working great on my Rezound. I hope that works for you as well.

Hmmm... will this still allow people calling my GV number to ring through to my cell though? I am assuming I need to the *900 & *920 once to make sure those features are disabled though... I can give it a shot tonight and see if it takes care of it, a few test calls should give me the answer quickly.

The end result I want is if people dial either my VZW cell number or GV number it is presented to the phone, then if it is not answered or the call is rejected either call goes to my GV voicemail. The reason is my VZW cell number is long distance number from where I am and it has a different area code, many people won't call it or answer if they see it show up, so I use my GV number for some people since it is a local number. This is how it worked before.

EDIT: Nvm... I think I see the issue, when I opened advanced settings on GV I had the Forwarding Option set wrong because I used to have another number linked to it besides my cell phone but I don't anymore, betting this will fix it... will test tonight after work.

Sounds like you and I use GV for exactly the same reasons so I totally get what you want to do. I think the setting you found will fix your problem. If not try the steps I posted earlier and all missed calls should go to GV VM.

Got it! It was in the Advanced Setting of my mobile phone on Google Voice, once I changed the Forwarding Options to "Go straight to voicemail" it worked fine in all instances. All I did was change that, do the *71<GV#>, and all was working. The 20+ year phone system tech veteran that I am worked against me on this one, I saw "Go straight to voicemail" and and never really read the description and figured that wasn't what I wanted, guess I need to think in Google instead of telephony next time.

Thanks for your help, you are a life saver!!!

Now if GV could just get rid of that pesky SIP "relay" delay when people dial my GV number... but that is another issue that is completely out of our hands.
