Got the update on Tuesday from Verizon and was soooo excited to try out Google Wallet. I have been using Softcard up to that point and been successful 100% of the time even though its a hassle to preload the AmEx each time I want to use it and to a certain extent, I kind of see why this never really took off.

So, I went to Walgreens to try it out. I disabled Softcard from the Application Manager by clicking on the Turn Off button. I then started up Google Wallet and entered the PIN Code. The available balance on Google Wallet was zero but, I had my debit cards and other forms of payment loaded up. I then went to the cashier and held my phone up to the device with Google Wallet displayed. The machine flashed the lights and my phone beeped and that was it. No transaction. After building a line and trying things out a couple of times, I then wound up paying with my debit card and walking away with no luck.

Am I doing anything wrong? The balance on my Google Wallet is $0.00 but I have quite a few credit cards and 2 debit cards on my Google Wallet so, the funding source was definitely there. I know with the SoftPay, it worked 100% of the time. It was just a hassle to constantly pre-load a AmEx Self Serve card each time when I want to use it.

If this is your first time launching Google Wallet, there may be a small prompt saying "Set up tap and pay" or something of that equivalent. That's mostly a terms and conditions consent, so check if that entry is there?

No. This is the second time. The first time I tried was back in September and wound up removing it. On Tuesday, when I upgraded to 4.4.4, I went through that process. For some reason, I tried it at Subway and it did not work again. Since I was the only one in the place, I decided to reinstall Softcard and it worked with that.

When I called Verizon, they transferred me to google and google tells me that its all setup correctly on my end. They were not sure why it was not able to work on my phone.

Hey there, I'm interested in tap and pay with Google Wallet as well.
Have SoftCard too and it works seamlessly though I can't stand the consortium and how they blocked Google. I also prefer to use a debit/credit card of my choosing not the preload Amex or the only other choices with SoftCard.
So like you I went to Walgreens and tried to use Google T&P with NFC turned on, and app open, though no beep, boop, or any dialog box opened.
Have an issue ticket open with Google Wallet on this whole situation. Will let you know what they say. I was previously told with this update we would be able to use Google Wallet T&P...
I was interested in the fact that you 'turned off' SoftCard. Were you directed to do that? I will try this tomorrow as the thought had crossed my mind as well! Thanks for any info and answers. Peace

Do you guys have an option under NFC to set your default tap n pay method? I don't have 4.4.4 or Verizon so I don't know what's in your settings, but I know on the Note 4 you have to make sure your default is set to Google Wallet.

Unfortunately we do not, I had the option when I had my Moto X which was running 4.4.4 but that option was not present in any of the menus as I was looking all over the place to set the default as Google Wallet.

I called Google yesterday and Verizon. Verizon was not able to resolve it so, they forwarded me to Google. Google looked at my Google account and saw that everything was set up correctly there. This time I tried to go to Subway and use it. This time, i turned off and attempted to remove Softcard. You cannot remove it and instead you can just disable it. This time, no one else was in the store and I had a patient cashier.

I opened up my Google Wallet and held it over the terminal. There was flashing of lights on the terminal and a beep. Error message popped up and and said something like no response from phone. I tried a couple of other things to see if it would work and she did the same and still nothing.

So, I left Google Wallet installed and turned on and opened my Softpay. Softpay worked and I paid for it and walked out of the store.

I heard on another forum that the chipset that Samsung used with the Note 3 NFC is where the issue is and the update to 4.4.4 was not the solution therefore, I wonder if the Note 3 will ever work with Google Wallet. At any rate, I am done. I will just use Softpay until I get the Note Edge or other device as my upgrade and then try it again.
