So this morning I was cleaning up my contacts and I went and turned off my phone contacts to filter out the very few numbers I have on my phone that I dont have stored on my google account and I noticed that it said my google account had 320 records attached with it. I started going through my contacts on my phone and I noticed some extra contacts from my secondary Google account that were popping in to my phone when I do not have contact synch turned on for that account. I only have it on for my main account. So i went and checked on line and sure enough contacts on my main google account online only show 261 records.

Does any one know where these extra records could be coming from? I do not think I had this problem going on until the update last week. I remember when I first got my evo playing with it and going through filtering out different contacts and I dont remember the number being off from my phone vs the web site. Is there any reason that it could be synching contacts from my other google accounts even though I have them only synching mail and not contacts? I dont even think between my other two google accounts that I have enough contacts to make up the difference between numbers..

Merry Christmas folks....;)

Any chance they are email contacts that you've sent emails to from the gmail account??

That's what I figured they were. I went in to my two secondary accounts and removed all the contacts like that, restarted the phone and the phone still shows the same number of contacts. I checked the Auto contacts options and nothing pops up. Im not sure where its calculating these numbers if nothing is there....

I don't have my Evo, yet, as I am waiting for it to ship tomorrow, but just wanted to say I had this same oddity happen on my Pre with Gmail.

I have 2 accounts, one that I keep public for my work and my personal account. I only ever put the personal account on my cell phone, but it still synced the contacts from both and I've no idea why.

I did find it, however, under my accounts and was able to remove it. It just made no sense, since I had never used that one from my phone and hadn't even put the password or username in. I think it may just be a Gmail glitch when the same name is on more than on account.

I have what I believe is a similar/related experience. I, too, have a secondary gmail account that has contact syncing turned off, but from which I still see contacts on the phone. But here's where it gets interesting:

I did at one point have that secondary account syncing contacts. Subsequently, I turned off syncing for that account. The contacts remained on the phone. Hmmm... So I took the drastic measure of deleting EVERY single contact in gmail for that secondary account. I turned syncing on again, hoping that the deletion of all contacts in gmail would sync to my phone, thereby removing them from the device. NOTHING happened. I have tried numerous manual syncs with the same results. On the phone, I can go in and delete those 'secondary account' contacts one by one, but what a pain!

Thoughts?

That seems like about the same thing, except mine was syncing secondary accounts with out me asking it to. I still have yet to find any reason why this is happening, and to this day it is still doing it. I have even had it stop sync all accounts and tried just my main again, with no luck. Is there any way to have the phone copy what is imported over from Gmail? say I have it syncing my gmail account, but there is nothing on the phone, is there a way to have the phone import entries over to the phones address book from gmail? Then I can just turn syncing of contacts off. I dont want to since I enjoy the backing up of it into cloud city, but it may help me for a bit.

it could be, I know syncing on blackberry had a lot of issues. I would turn on contact sync and it would add the same name over to my blackberry 5 or 6 times. it was really frustrating. I was hoping with android I would avoid the problems with syncing, and really I have, this is more of just a minor annoyance.

got your evo yet? like? what apps have you found useful?
