I got excited for a moment until I realized they will ultimately end up raising each within 1-3 years to the price for both now or at least close to it.

And even half is still too expensive, especially when they don't moderate clickbait or foreign language videos with an English title. And of course the sponsorship problem which can be fixed but we don't talk about that.

Google could fix it but they don't want to put in the effort.

so google is realizing folks are tired of paying for packages. you can't shame or coerce someone to continue buying from you. when will companies realize if you do not offer what customers' want, they will get it elsewhere.

I think it's rather silly to believe it will be "half the price." I'm guessing it will be $9 US minimum, possibly more if YouTube hikes the price of Premium before "Lite" is officially offered. Either that or they'll go tiered and bundled like other streaming services. Let's say the lowest tier has two thirds as many ads as free, the mid-tier ("Lite") has half as many, and the Premium tier has no ads. Plus if you "bundle" YouTube Music with YouTube Premium you get a price break on each making it only $1-$2 US more than Premium by itself. Then there's the potential for higher-priced "Family" plans so multiple devices/users can use the subscription at the same time.

I swear I always feel like the Minority here, but i absolutely LOVE the YouTube Music package. I consume so much YouTube video content as streaming music that it’s running 24/7 for me pretty much. No ads, background play, higher fidelity audio, etc, I take advantage of all of it as much as I can.

Sure, $22.99 is kinda steep compared to what it used to be, but that gives me 6 users under the Family Plan - of which 3 usernames are just for me for various uses, and the rest are for Family members. About $4 per month for everything is a fucking steal.
