I am a current Pre user that has been on a waiting list for an EVO. Received a call today from BB stating my unit was in after waiting 2 to 3 weeks. Now am confused on if I want the EVO or the upcoming Epic 4G. I guess I could pick up and utilize my 30 return policy if I wanted to go with the Epic. Both seem like great phones. Thoughts?

I think it really depends on what you're looking for. Do you want a physical keyboard? Are you fine with an all touch screen phone? I would say get your EVO and try it out to see if you like it first.

are you the type of person whose gonna want to root their phone and do customizations and that type of stuff? if so htc is your best bet. they have the best hacking community.

how much do you like physical landscape keyboards? i feel like everyone i know who has one just uses the one on the front for almost everything.

Probably will not root. Do like to tinker however. The landscape keyboard is not super appealing but for long text entry. Is Swype still available or in beta. Isn't this the way to go for onscreen keyboard use?

My take: if a keyboard is important, then Epic is the route. If I knew at the time I got the Evo what I know now, I would have waited, 'cause I hate the screen keyboard something fierce.

You can get swype on the evo I use it all the time and its amazing. Dont miss physical keyboards at all!

Personally, I think you are in a win, win situation. I would go pick up the EVO try it out & if you find that you are not satisfied you can always switch since you will be within the 30 days. :D

some would claim (slick) that the epic is garbage. i for one vote, get what you want.

Yea, before the EVO I would never buy a phone thy didn't have a hard keyboard. EVO changed my mind, now I'd never buy a phone WITH a keyboard. It's nice to never have to slide open a keyboard, and a virtual keyboard can be used in portrait and landscape.

I think I am in a good position since my 30 day window allows me to evaluate 2 outstanding platforms. With that said, picked up the EVO. Very impressive. Still playing around with it. Is Swype officially available?

No, its still in beta. But there are plenty of apk's floating around, just google "swype for evo", or something similar, it shouldn't be hard to find.

It's my understanding the the Epic is shipping with Swype. Their commercials say you have three ways to enter text: the physical keyboard, the virtual keyboard and Swype.

I hate correcting my self but hey I'm a stand up guy

Looking further into Breifmobile testing I found that Epic GPS target distance is = to EVO & Blackberry 8330 - 9630 & 9650 which is great

"Quote BreifMobile"
We later tested the device’s GPS using an application called “My Tracks” by the Google Team.
The application records GPS data and tracks it. We found that the device was pretty accurate, but not perfect. Always within 5-10 feet of the actual car. It struggled on turns to stay on the road, and the compass seemed way out of whack the whole time. But we think this My Tracks test proves the GPS is more than adequate.
You should rarely see Google Navigation losing you on a road.

Samsung Epic 4G GPS Test &raquo BriefMobile

With Google maps using EVO it put me any ware from 2 - 7 meters = 6.56 feet - 16.4 feet when fix was complete
Epic is well within that GPS target distance so hey sorry I jumped the gun passing judgment before looking into it further.
