So I finally received my Kyocera Echo. USPS rerouted my phone...

Anyway I have it now and coming from a Samsung Moment, I really enjoy this phone.

I will take some pics once I get a chance comparing the sizes of it to a HTC EVO and my old Moment. It's actually not as thick as everyone made it seem.

Got mine... Could not be happier. I came from windows mobile using a touch pro 2. Used my brothers evo for a while (about a month). Was impressed with that, but the echo from a productivity stand point is some much better. Optimzed email mode is the stuff dreams are made of. I could check almost all my messages for the day by simply going down the line of the left Hand side of screen and watching them appear on the right like outlook is nice.

Am I the only one who prefers to type on this thing with the keyboard stretch across both screens? By the way guys, using opera mobile 11 update 4 that was released a few days ago is fantastic. There are quite a few tweaks that I brought over my windows mobile days on opera that still apply to the version on android. I could post the instructions for doing them if anyone is interested.

With regards to the battery life, there is something really funky going on that I pretty sure will get resolved with the update to android 2.3 that kyocera is planning. One night I am able to get 5 hours on the dual screen (while web browsing the whole time) and the next I can barely to 2.5 to 3 hours out of it. This same thing is happening in single screen mode.

I Also did a little Rom building in windows mobile so I am going to read up on the process for android to see if I can get something going for this device. Someone already posted an echo system dump yesterday, so thats a pretty good start. I am going to root it this afternoon. Here's to hoping the bootloader is not locked.

Again, very rootable and some extras on the Kyocera site. Airplane mode trick improves battery life (issue with cell standby seeking unsupported signals). Juicedefender free helped quite a lot too.

What are the extras?

First, I take back what I said about Juice Defender. The phone is less stable and cellular radio driver may crash. So do NOT use it, and probably do not use any other brand of battery saver. A pity.

Extras on Kyocera site include extra system drivers and their special SDK for developing optimized-mode applications. Files and documentation available on the echobykyocera.com site...

I'm using Green Power Premium for a battery saver as well as SetCPU. Works great.

How big of a gain have you seen on battery with the paid version, are you getting your emails in a timely fashion and what (if any) media player software do you use?

Well I just use the widget to pause the app when using Slacker Radio so my music doesn't stop.

As far as how much of an increase well it's hard to say but definitely a few hours gain.

Maybe I should take another look. but I can't afford to miss incoming mail or half the point of a "smart" phone will be lost.

What program are you using to get email? You using intervals or push function?

I use GMail as well as the stock Email app for my work email via Exchange. Both using push. I never have problems with late emails.
