Hey,

The GPS on my s3 is constantly turning on for no reason and drains my battery like crazy when indoors. I've tried uninstalling and disabling everything I could think of. Does anyone have any idea what may be causing it? I have standalone gps on and Google location (and Google now) off.

I used to love and recommend this phone. Since the jb update and the resulting gps and battery life issues, I'm not sure if I'll ever buy another Samsung product again. It's easy to blame Verizon, but if Apple can get around the Verizon forcing software issues, Samsung has no excuse.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Well, first off, you should turn Standalone GPS off - there's no reason to leave it on, and that'll put an end to it coming on randomly.
Second, there's obviously some app/service that was taking advantage of the fact that Standalone GPS was turned on, and was using it for any number of reasons: showing your location in Latitude; keeping track of the number of steps that you walked (fitness app stuff); showing the correct weather for your location; etc.
Technically you should be able to leave Standalone GPS turned on, and it'll only get used when an app (like Google Maps) needs to use it for navigation or something, but you obviously have a problem with a rogue app, so until you find out what it is your best bet is to turn it off.
