I have a question. I'd like to use Google Maps for navigation on my trip instead of toting along my Garmin. Do you have to have a good cell phone signal all the time for it to work? What if I am in an area with poor or no signal? What happens?

You do need an active, reliable data connection to use it, especially since maps not cached before do take a lot of data to download.

HOWEVER, you can download the area you'll be traveling to for offline use before your trip. That way you can even use it while in airplane mode, so no data will be used (and especially good for areas with poor to no service).

And, of course, you need a good GPS signal, so it won't work inside a long tunnel - but you won't be making any turns in there either.

Thank you very much! I never even thought about downloading the area maps.
