I'm looking for some recommendations for GPS apps. So far I have used 2.

Waze: Not too bad of an app, but a little quirky for me.

Navigator: I think this is a default app that came with the phone. Personally I really like this app. But it has one little bug that makes it a deal breaker for me, because it drives me nuts and I can find a setting anyplace to change it.

Usually, when you use a GPS, the direction you are heading is represented at the top of the screen, no matter what compass direction that actually is. Think of your GPS screen as a compass with North at the top, South at the bottom, East is to the right and West is to the left. In Navigator, if I'm driving south, the screen displays my direction of travel as moving to the bottom of the screen, making it appear to be going backwards. So instead of seeing streets as I'm approaching them, I see them after I pass them.

I don't need a GPS to help me miss my turns, I can do that pretty well on my own thank you. I was going to try ATT Navigator but after like 30 or 60 days, they want me to pay them 10 bucks a month, and I already kick in enough money to those bandits.

So is anyone using a GPS app that works well for them? Free is a plus...... :)

Thanks

I use Google maps for finding addresses and location assistance. You can ask for a street addy or a business name and get decent results. Use voice input to set my destination, then select navigation mode when I'm ready for turn by turn navigation. The traffic, and terrain plugins are handy also. You can also cache your route offline if cell service is spotty. your GPS will still show your location.

If you don't mind Google sharing your location with the world, the GPS is usually accurate within a few feet. I use switchpro to toggle location sharing off when maps is closed.

There are numerous free apps in the play store for hiking and biking also.

@OP,

From what you describe, it sounds like you are not aware that by pressing the compass arrow (upper left hand of nav screen), you change the nav view. I like having my direction heading at the top of the screen to maintain the same perspective as you are looking at while driving. This way your streets appear on screen as they do in reality. Took me a bit to figure this one out.

I have not found a third party nav app that I like better than the stock Nav.
