Ok when I turn my GPS on the droid x it doesn't want to keep the icon on the top of the notification bar is that normal? I never can tell if its on or not. Does Google place need gps on or what settings do you guys keep on all the time that isn't a battery drainer.

wireless networks on or off
GPS satelites ?
Enable assisted GPS ?

When the GPS is turned on, it will display an icon in the notification bar - when it's actually working. You can have your GPS "turned on" at all times, but it won't be fully active until an app needs it.

I usually disable the GPS when I don't need it, as I don't want apps to use it when I'm not looking at them. It is a huge battery drain, and should therefore be disabled when not needed. However, the GPS does not use any battery, or at least very little, when activated but not in use.

Unless you have apps that use it a lot gps being on will notdrain your battery. I leave it on all the time (I've actually never turned it off) and I get great battery life.

And the icon will only show when its active. Android does an excellent job managing the gps radio. I wish it was like that with every radio. :)

What about this? My GPS icon is on the notification bar, and I'm not using anything that requires it. It just came on, and I don't know why. How do I "turn it off" without disabling the GPS in settings? Droid X.
