How is the GPS performance on the Nexus S? Coming from a Samsung Fascinate that has the worst GPS and EVO 3D that locks instantly and accurately im thinking about picking up a Nexus S and was curious about lock times and accuracy.
Thanks

Its great on the nexus. My last phone was the palm pre. It took about 60 sec to get a lock. The nexus takes about 5 sec. It is accurate also

Only had the phone for 3 days, used it yesterday to get to some where I hadn't been before and it led me straight there... that's all that matters to me. Found the satellites 10x faster the the blackberry I've been using for the last 2 years.

Yeah it has by far the fastest locking GPS I have ever had on any phone. I have had probably 15-20 phones too lol...

Don't know if it's just me (kind of hoping it is!), but GPS on my NS 4G isn't nearly as good as my Evo was. Google Maps, for instance, would give me much faster and more accurate locks on the Evo than compared to my NS.

I am running CM7, by the way, so that could be part of the problem. From what I can tell, though, the GPS "reception" isn't as good or accurate as the Evo's. Again, would love to be wrong about this.

Recently returned from a week long trip in LA where I used my Nexus all the time for navigation across this city. The GPS (and Google Nav) performed flawlessly.

This past weekend, I was using GPS, and it would not for any reason get a GPS lock. It took two reboots to get it to work right. And I was in my car. This is the first time I've had GPS issues as far as I know.

Then on top of that, it took it about 3 or 4 minutes (no exaggeration) to download the driving directions, because my Nexus has a terrible signal/download issue. So..It's gonna depend on the device you receive..

Super fast and accurate and as long as you do the figure eight calibration the compass is perfect too.

Was just in Orlando for 2 weeks and just poor poor poor, could not locate gps and lead me to wrong places, back home works great again... don't know what the issue was there. In the Disney Park the battery went in hours, again poor reception causing the phone to work overload to update so always had to put into airplane mode to make the battery last..

When I had my Pre I followed a guide on using QPST to turn on more GPS modes. I've never really had a problem with my Nexus GPS (at least not one that a reboot didn't fix.) I still wondered if turning on those extra GPS modes would make it faster and if I could use the same settings I used on my Pre.

Thanks everyone for all the fedback on this topic! I've had my NS4G since thursday and i have been using google nav and maps alot and i do get better and more accurate locks than my EVO 3d ever did and i cant even say about my Fascinate it hardly ever got a fix on anything at all. I think this one is a keeper.

i agree the lock is super quick. i have an old nuvi 350 that served me well and was going to upgrade but i thought i'd give the nexus gps a spin first. while it's great for directions i find it limiting in searching for POI's along the way. yes i can search and find them, but i can't add a POI as a via point - unless i'm doing something wrong (which may very well be!). it reroutes to the newly imputed destination and then i have to set it up again to get back to my original destination. also, i can't seem to add places. i see 'starred' places and i've starred places in my contacts, but they still don't add to the starred places in the navigation program.
unless i'm doing something wrong or there's some type of app to overlay i can't see me using this solely. please let me know if i got this all wrong! thanks guys
