First post. Greetings,

I live in a basement apartment with no window access to the outside. Let me qualify that. There is one window in the bathroom. I am in the frozen north, so even if there were windows near the computer, well...

I use a simulator and I want to get an app which has geo referenced plates. That requires a GPS connection. The tablet is aware of the GPS satellites. However, it cannot connect.

Does anyone know what I can do to get a signal from my dungeon? I looked at portable bluetooth GPS receivers. I'm not sure that's the answer. It would still be in the basement, but could be placed near the window. I should stop suggesting my own solution, as I really don't have a clue if it would work. :-X

Any help and guidance would be gratefully accepted.

Graham

Welcome to Android Central! An external Bluetooth GPS antenna should work, but it would probably be more effective if it was placed outside your window. You'd also be limited to using your tablet within Bluetooth range, which probably means doing it in the bathroom. I wasn't able to find an external GPS antenna that connects via USB, but that doesn't mean they don't exist.

You said: "The tablet is aware of the GPS satellites. However, it cannot connect." If it's aware then it's connected to the satellites. Do you mean the Wi FI won't connect? Garmin makes USB GPS antenna sticks. Newegg also sells this: GARMIN GPS 18x USB Receiver. It has a long cord. Google search for 'USB GPS receiver' and you will find more.

Since YOU know where you are, why not use an application that will spoof your location so that other applications using GPS are tricked into thinking you are there? Google fake gps android. You'll need to enable developers options to enable mock locations but I don't think you need root access.
