Grand Rapids, MI - 4G is here!

Turned on the 4G on my EVO last night to see if they got on the ball, but expected the same old results with a 4G network found sporadically but never connecting. NOT THIS TIME!

Did several speed tests last night & today. Getting around 4.0 Mbps down and around 0.5Mbps up. Ping rates have been all over. Anywhere from 75mS to over 300 mS but I think it's mainly due to my weak signal because it improves a lot when the phone is outside with 2 bars of 4G signal.

I'm on a fringe area by John Ball Zoo & get no bars on the 4G signal inside, but I'd say I'm happy with the results so far. Not too sure how many people have been using it here, but I'd assume not many because my download speeds have been consistantly around 4Mbps with spikes around 4.5 Mbps.

I think they are still working on it a bit though here in GR. Sometimes I lose signal completely like they shut it off for about an hour or so and it turns back on with speeds listed above. Plus there are a few massive holes in the center of GR with no 4G coverage according to the updated sprint coverage maps. Hoping this gets resolved.

If you're in Grand Rapids, enjoy the 4G speed with little apparent traffic to hamper your browsing. (At least in my area)

The Sensorly app lets users map 3G and 4G service while they drive. So far, users have mapped 4G coverage in 150 cities including towers in: Grand Rapids, Walker, Wyoming.

The app has street level maps. Until a market is officially announced, towers are in testing and may be turned off at times.
