Gray bar on left side in landscape mode

When I switch to landscape mode for viewing a live video, there is a gray area on the left side of the screen. It is the same information area that is at the top of the screen in portrait mode. It is annoying in landscape mode. Samsung A31.

Welcome to Android Central! What app are you using to watch the video? If it's a standard 16:9, and you want to view the video without cutting off any part of it, then you'll always see a gap on the sides, since the phone's screen is 20:9. It's kind of the like the letterbox effect of watching a widescreen movie on a conventional TV, except on the sides rather than the top and bottom.
