Hey guys. Long time Android OS fan and user (owned original G1 from T-Mobile and to this day I think of it as one of the best phones I had back in the day).

My first phone was motorola flip phone, not even sure what model number. I went through quite a few non smart phones till I switched to Symbian OS which back in the day was awesome. One of my favorite phones that I used with Symbian OS was SE W950 with nice little stylus to go with it. Once Android OS came out, I knew that was it. I stuck with it till this day and I'm currently owner of a Nexus 4.

I'm in the process of upgrading to a new handset (I currently own Nexus 4). I'm interested in either Sony Xperia Z2, LG G3 or the new Motorola Moto X (2014). My main concerns are battery life and camera. I heard Z2 makes good pictures but G3 is better supposedly. At the same time, battery on Z2 is better than the G3. Moto X battery seems kind of low but thanks to its rapid charge it can charge it pretty fast and camera is mediocre(?). I'm on my phone a lot and would love it if it lasted at least one full day although I realize that it might be impossible (from 3:30am when I unplug it to 10:00pm when I plug it back in). Maybe I should wait for the unannounced and yet to be seen Nexus 6 which should be comparable to Moto X but at the same time I know the history of Nexus's camera and battery is not that great... but at least nexuses come with affordable price.

I'll appreciate any input.

Thanks!

Welcome to Android Central! My thoughts, mostly based on what I've read (not direct experience):

Z2--Great hardware, but concern for Sony's tendency to forget about its hardware fairly quickly, meaning poor support, less chance of sustained system updates.

G3--Amazing specs overall, with a killer screen--but the QHD screen can lead to somewhat lackluster performance due to having to push all of those pixels. Not really much yet that is optimized for QHD screens yet in Google Play or other sources.

Moto X--From the 3 phones you've mentioned, I'd probably go for this one. The first Moto X was a favorite of a lot of writers (like Jerry Hildenbrand), and the new version sounds like an improvement on all fronts.

The Nexus 6 is probably worth waiting for, if you can wait. Keep in mind that by all reports, the N6 will be made by Motorola and not LG, so it's unlikely that any strengths or flaws will be directly carried over to the new phone. (By the way, I think the N5 camera has always been unfairly maligned--I can take some terrific pics with it!)

Thanks for warm welcome and I really appreciate the input on my question.

Since I'm really in no rush, I'll probably see what Nexus 6 will be all about because from what the rumors say, it looks like a really solid phone, only time will telll.

Thanks and I'll see you guys around.

Welcome,

Long time HTC fan here that made the jump to the G3.

Awesome phone!

Welcome to the forums.
I have yet to use a Sony device, although I would like to. Of all your mentioned phones, I would probably choose the Moto X. I have the first one and I really like it.

It seems like a lot of people are in favor of the new Moto X, aren't you guys concerned with the small battery size at all? I know that the battery has been optimized to work great with the software just like the original moto x; however, there has to be some limits considering larger screen?

ffejjj, apparently there are some sources saying that G3 experiences some slown downs, lag, or whatever you might call it, is it true for you? If so, is it noticeable? At what point?

Welcome to the forums!

I'd say go with the Nexus 5, but that's a very subjective take since I have the device. The Moto X did get high praise, and Moto X 2014 only improves upon that. Either way, I'm sure you'll be happy with any of the devices you have listed.

Let us know what you decide on going with.

Welcome to the forums.
I too have the LG G3 and have had Zero problems.
No lag, delays, screen problems, battery problems, etc.
It is the best device I have ever had.
Reports of snafus have been blown all out of proportion but when you mass produce anything, a problem device is bound to slip through.

All that matters is that you are happy with the device you choose. Happy hunting.

Mav.

Sent from the future on my Sprint Tri-Band LG G3.

Tough choice, but I'll let you guys know on what I've decided.

Once again thanks for the warm welcome and input!

Welcome to Android Central!
If you're going to get the Z2, I'd just go ahead and wait for the Z3 which will be coming out really soon
And yeah, that Nexus 6 looks like a beast, I just hope it's 5.2 inches and not like 5.9 inches.

Thanks!

Z3 is not really that BIG of a bump compared to Z2 and the price difference probably will be. At the same time, Sony is releasing new devices every six months or so, so waiting for something newer will be a never ending wait. And yeah, I wish there would be some confirmed specs and release date for Nexus 6.

Welcome to the forums at Android Central! 🙋

I have the Samsung Galaxy S5, love it!
Would not trade it for anything else that is out there at the moment!
