Please excuse my accent, I?m French-Canadian?
I?ve always been a PC guy (as opposed to a Mac guy) and so I was always confident that Android was for me. My phone is the HTC Desire, which I bought the very first day it was available in Montreal, two years ago. But then, a month later, something unexpected happened: I was offered an iPad for my birthday.
And although I always hated all things Apple, I had to admit that gadget was a thing of beauty. I started using it all the time and never really used my Android phone except to make phone calls and text a little.
What I came to realize is that while the iPad is a very slick tablet, it still is an Apple product. It works the way Apple wants it to work and that?s it. Customization is severely limited and transferring files through iTunes is a real pain. But I put up with it since it was a gift!
Last week, my friend?s kid was playing Angry Bird on it. He accidentally dropped it on the concrete floor and the screen now has a crack all the way through. It still works, but? that was the excuse I needed to start looking for a new tablet.
I discovered this forum and started to read all the good things about the Nexus 7 and Jelly Bean. The more I read, the more I became convinced that the Nexus 7 was the tablet for me.
I went to my local Future Shop (that would be a Best Buy for you people south of the border) but they had none in stock. Anxious to have it as soon as possible, I finally ordered it directly from Google. And I sold my iPad to a colleague (yes, he knows it?s cracked) for the same price as the Nexus?
The only thing I?m asking myself is if the 7? tablet will be big enough, me being used to a 10?. I know the lighter weight will be welcome because I always take it wherever I go, but I wonder about reading magazines and comics. I guess I will know soon enough, the Nexus should be here on Monday.
Anyway, I just want to say that I really enjoy this forum and I hope I?ll be able to contribute to it a little.
