I thought I read on here that stock app was capable of this. Am I just missing it?

In the stock messaging app:

Method 1:
Make new SMS.
Enter first recipient.
When first recipient is input and focus goes to the the message field, touch the address field.
Add second and subsequent recipients.
Uncheck box for "Send as individual messages". (only required the first time AFAIK)
Acknowledge "Group messages" dialog. (only required first time AFAIK)
Enter or acknowledge phone number for Group Messaging. (only required first time AFAIK)
Type message.
Send.

Method 2:
Make new SMS
Touch Contacts icon next to address field.
Select multiple recipients.
(You can also Swipe left to Groups and select a number of contact groups.)
Uncheck box for "Send as individual messages". (only required the first time AFAIK)
Acknowledge "Group messages" dialog. (only required first time AFAIK)
Enter or acknowledge phone number for Group Messaging. (only required first time AFAIK)
Type message.
Send.

The groups in Method 3 (for me, anyway) are groups setup in my Google contacts. YMMV.

Do the reply's group when you do this?

Also, when you are part of a group message as a recipient (I almost never start them), does it automatically do it as a group message or do you get a bunch of individual threads?

The stock messaging app limits you to 10 persons for a group sms. I am therefore using Go SMS. Is there an app that allows a shortcut on the homescreen to go directly into composing the message for a designated group?

Go into settings on the messaging app then go to MMS check the box for group messages. Now when you will be apart of the messaging group and see everyone in it.

Don't know the answer to these. Give it a try and let us know!

Now when you do this it says it may result in additional charges from your provider... what are they talking about?

i'm guessing just cause its mms and goes through data technically and you could go over your data cap and get charged... am i on the money?... pun intended :-$

I have checked the box for group messaging and it worked for me - I was able to join in on a group text started by someone else and it grouped messages from everyone in a common thread. It also worked when I started the group text.

However - after a day or so I noticed that it stopped working and I went into settings and the box was unchecked. Any clue how to make it stay checked permanently and/or an app that is great at group texts?

Happened to me too but has not happened again after I checked it a second time.

I tried this, with two friends on iPhone. One responded, I never got any response.

Also tried on Go SMS, still not working. This is really frustrating as it's a feature I used A LOT on my iPhone. Any ideas on how to make this work right?

thats great, but what about not 4.2.2? Go SMS sucks, Handcent sucks....any other options out there?

I use handcent sms on my s3 and when I start the thread I get all the replies in the thread providing that their phone supports group messaging too.

How can a technology (group text) that has been around for a while now NOT be a part of every OS over the past few years? So far this is the only thing about the HTC One that is incredibly disappointing and impacts me fairly often...

:(

Nothing will work right till we get an update, i'll just keep getting "Message not found" messages until then.

He is right. It's in the settings, works great for me.

HTC One>galaxy>iPhone

I'm glad it worked great for you but I have that box checked and still can't receive group messages...I can send them with no trouble but when people reply, I never get them. Talked to both AT&T and HTC today-they blamed each other, so that was disappointing and frustrating.

It is a problem with AT&T

I have spent hours trying to get it to work properly on my note 2,visited several at&t stores, all to be told to download a different sms app and it should work. Go sms works better than the rest for it, but still very poor. At&t can eat a fat one
