I have searched for this issue all day today and haven't seen anyone address it sooooo.....
My GS5 kept telling me that the back of the phone was not closed properly despite it being flush with the phone. I kind of hoped it would just go away then I noticed that it wouldn't read my SDcard. I tried mounting it from the settings menu, power cycling the device and manually removing it and placing it back into the phone. Nothing has worked so far and when I click on the SDcard from the notification menu it says that it needs to be formatted for the device. Very frustrating since I just moved all my music to the card and had a significant amount of movies on it. All of them were working fine just a couple of days ago.

I called Samsung and they told me to install kies 2.6 which I was in the process of doing but then after it finished the program told me that it didn't support my device and I have to install kies 3. Customer service also told me to put the phone in safe mode and it finally stopped saying the back of the phone is open but didn't solve my SDcard issue. I guess I still plan on backing the phone up with kies 3 then performing a reset.

I was excited about the device until about 8 hours ago, now I'm looking for the tallest point in Denver to throw it off of. Any suggestions?

If you know how to navigate through files just like in a computer, all you need to do is connect your phone to the computer thru your usb and it will show up as an extra drive. Once there copy/paste your music and movies to your hard drive and after reformatting the SD card inside your phone, do the reverse operation and put your files back into the SD card. No need to mess with Kies or any other application unless you want to be do a complete back up of your phone.

Good thought but I tried that and it won't even show up in my PC. I'm using windows 7 BTW. When I click mount SD card it says "preparing SD card" then "blank SD card" and nothing else happens.
Any other thoughts?
I wish I had another SD card to plug into to see if it is just a bad card.

Take it out of the phone and put it in the computer and see if it could be read from there otherwise, the only other solution should be re-format the card and loose your music unless some one else comes up with another suggestion. There is a little app called SDrescan how ever, it is not compatible with kit kat at this moment.
