GoogleChat/Talk App Dropping Connection on screen timeout

I keep getting messages from my google chat/talk contacts saying "Your name keeps signing on and off over and over." It seems as though during these downtimes, messages are being sent to me but not delivered, nor are they visible on the PC application or Gmail Chat.

First I thought this was related to my wireless strength, because it initially was happening at home where I always use my WiFi. However, its happening at work too which I remain on 3G the whole day.

Is anyone else experiencing connectivity issues with GChat/GTalk? If so... whats the secret? I suppose I could just disable the service from signing on with my phone, but that sort of defeats the purpose.

Edit:
It seems to occur after the screen times out. I've tweaked some settings "Auto Away" and the like with no success. It's got to be super annoying to be talking to someone on gChat and seeing the droid user sign off after every screen lock. Anyone know a work around?

I have had this same issue , and many times i get " you have lost connection to the server" from both gtalk and twitter.... so im not sure what is going on here.

Seems like this occurs on the HTC Droid as well. Anyone else noticing this? Theres got to be something weird, I can't imagine my full strength 3G is to blame.

Might be on the google end. I usually have gmail up at work and its booted me (and other friends on different connections) off on occasion.

When you think about the "100,000" people that just got their Droids and Droid Eris' over the past couple of days... Each requiring you to have a google account... Thus a TON of new people that have may have just started using google talk for the first time and are now a load on Google's servers. Not for sure. Just a theory.

Could be... but ive been actively (like a huge nerd) keeping my screen active and i havent lost connection once. And as soon as I let my phone lock, sure enough, "Signing into Google Chat"

I think you might be right, even people who had gmail may have not used gtalk on their phone. Especially those of us that moved from blackberry and used bbm. Although if that is the problem I can't imagine google not being able to solve an increased user problem pretty quickly. I wonder what percentage of people went from a RIM device to the Droid these past few days.

I'm not a Motorola Droid user...but I have this same issue with my HTC Hero with Sprint.

Maybe is an Android issue???

I downloaded Meebo IM this morning since it allows mutliple gtalk accounts and facebook chat as well. It has worked for me all day without any problems whereas I did encounter your problem before a couple of times using the native gtalk.

It seems every time my phoen goes into "standby" mode the connection drops. This seems to happen after screen time outs. I assume its to conserve battery and just respond to sms/calls, but I'd like to keep some applications running when my phone is in my pocket. Any ideas?

I posted a poll a couple of days ago and so far its been close to 85% who have voted anyway lol. I think this is more the BB killer than an iPhone killer lol

Meebo IM seems to be a pretty good solution for now. I had been looking for a way to sign into google talk anyway without using the phone's default gmail account so it solves both the connection and account sign in problem for me.

That is exactly what pushed me to look for an alternative...more than one gtalk account. Meebo IM is still working fine for me.
