I submitted an unlock request for my T-Mobile GW4 Classic 46mm LTE

They said it would be unlocked within 72 Hours..

I removed the mobile plan and shut off everything but Bluetooth

How will the watch receive future updates? Direct from Samsung or??

I don't think ANY of the watch updates come OTA to the watch directly. You have to use the Wear app to get updates. At least, that is how it has always been in the past. My GW4C is my first NON-LTE watch and even with LTE watches, updates came via the Wear app.

You can check for updates on the watch directly by going to settings and tapping on "software update"

You can also check in the wearable app under watch settings, then software update.

I've had an update even though I haven't activated my LTE. (Still haven't gotten anything newer than BUI5 though)

I would highly recommend turning on your wifi on the watch though. I believe all updates require either LTE or wifi. Bluetooth is just way too slow to download files of that size.

You are correct...

Wifi or BT on the watch itself. I have three and each one I've gone through on the watch to update separately.

They still will come late unfortunately as LTE model updates are usually pushed after the Wi-Fi model. Also your watch was never locked to T-Mobile. All watches come unlocked and you chose the carrier you would like to use it with even if you do purchase the watch from that carrier.
