Gym battle crash causes pokemon to disappear

Hey, this weekend I was having a gym battle, and the game started to lag badly and I had to do a hard reset on the phone to get things moving again. I was using my gyarados at the time. However when I got back in gyarados was fainted. I then used a potion/revive on him and then he was gone. As in just gone entirely from my inventory, and never came back. He was starred/favorited, and I did not transfer him, nor did anyone else have access to my phone. The game seems to have deleted my pokemon by itself. Has this happened to anyone else? how can I get it back?

I am using an android 6.0, Moto G 3rd generation smartphone with pokemon go 0.41.4

That's super harsh. You could try contacting Niantic, but I seriously doubt they'll help you.

Sorry, that really sucks. I have never heard of that happening before.

I have had them ‘disappear’ onscreen while in a battle. You can still tap and dodge, they are just invisible. Sometimes the game locks up and the opponent does not die. I can keep attacking, they do not attack back but they do not die. In severe cases, I will get booted, the gym status does not change but I have to revive all my attackers that were in the gym. Such is the game.
