Had essential for a few days

Decided to go back to my MZP. What I didn't like: the narrowness and slipperyness of the phone. Battery wasn't what I was used to. The screen was sharp, but the phone was laggy. Also, while this is a trend, I don't like the finger print reader on the back. Makes it hard to access while in a car phone mount. I really wanted to like the phone, but it fell short.

The Moto Z Play has some of the best battery life ever, so I don't know if that's fair. That said, I owned both and think the Essential battery isn't that much worse than the Moto Z Play.

I received my Essential Phone on Wednesday and am the opposite, I'm really liking the phone. I love the build quality and it does seem to slop off any surface that isn't perfectly flat. I don't have issues holding it, I have no issues with the grip against the titanium (I have the black color) -- though I will put it in a case.

I feel it being narrower is a positive, it is easier to use one handed. As you point out, the screen is great. It did seem to lag for the first day or so, as I was setting it up and getting the updates downloaded, since then I haven't noticed any lag.

As for the Fingerprint Sensor, I have no issue with the back placement -- I can't think of an Android phone I've owned with a front facing FPS. As for not working in a car dock, assuming your car has Bluetooth, just set the car up as a Trusted Device and you won't really need to worry about touching the FPS.

The other thing I love is how quick they've been about updating the software, including fixes for issues the phone shipped with. Most of my previous Androids have been Nexus phones (though I also had the original Moto X), and I like getting the monthly security and Android updates.

Last, since I got the phone on the $5 lease through Spring, I can't imagine getting a better phone for $145.

The trusted device is a good suggestion, I haven't used that feature before, a good solution. Thanks.

I've really liked trusted device for things like in the car, it has worked well for me.

I also hope you didn't think I was criticizing you in my post. I just am enjoying the Essential, so far; but I realize that different people need/want different things out of their phone -- and what works for me does not necessarily work for others.

I'm also in the camp that the fps should be in the back, as long as it's in the center position, and not the asinine position that Samsung chose. Perfect placement for my index when I pick it up, and keeps the front of the phone clean looking.

That said, I can't wait till under the screen fps becomes commonplace

I love this phone. mine has not lagged at all. works great. I had to restart one time because it started to glitch a bit on me. but that's all

After restarting mine in SafeMode, then restarting normal, I lost my screen configurations because the app which controls all the 'desktops' crashed and I had to clear both cache & memory which wiped everything out and had to set 3 screens up again, and no one at Essential gave me an answer (they kept asking questions that weren't pertinent to the problem).
