Had the m9 returned it, is the m8 still a viable choice?

After returning my m9 cause I wasn't impressed with the screen etc, I've seen a cheap m8 on sale. Just wondered given this device is well over w year old now is it stoll a viable device? Would I be taking a backward step? I'm worried about what people have said about the camera not bring good.

I think it's still a nice performing device, but I had two that had a charging issue. One I used warranty roulette, and the used one they sent me developed the same problem. The USB ports went bad. Considering that's the only way to charge the phone and I've now had two with the same issue, I no longer recommend it. Once the port goes out, it's dead in the water.

The camera on the M8 wasn't half bad. Unless you were planning to make large prints or a lot of zooming/cropping, the resolution isn't much of an issue. It had great color clarity and low light performance, and I thought the duo effects were fun to play with.

I upgraded to the LG G4 and have been pleased so far with it. I like LCD screens, sd card support, and removable batteries. The G4 has it, an awesome camera, actually doesn't feel as big as it is (I don't like phablet sizes), and Verizon had a killer deal on it. People have been able to combine three offers that basically paid then $46 to get it.

Thanks, whats the performance of the lg g4 like compared to the m8?

In terms of smoothness, they are about the same. They both also have good quick settings from the notification pull down and have knock on/off abilities (the G4 can knock off without needing an extra app). The G4 has a faster processor and more RAM, so obviously it'll be more future proof. The G4 also stands out because the camera has OIS and better manual controls, plus can shoot in RAW (which I think the M9 could do now too). It's considered one of the best cameras on the market right now for cell phones. You do loose front facing stereo speakers, but the single rear speaker on the G4 is much louder and clear compared to the M8.

The G4 also has some features to help productivity. My favorite is the ability to modify the on screen buttons, to which I added one that activates the notification shade. That way I'm not having to reach with one handed use to get my notifications. I also have the Qslide button which gives me access to several apps as a floating screen without backing out of other apps and going to the app drawer. It also has a dual window function for multitasking certain apps.

So you're getting a smooth phone while still adding more functionality.

I'd recommend the Nexus 6P over the M8. Still a metal device, better screen, better camera, better processing, fingerprint scanner, better software, longer (and faster) update schedule, more secure - there aren't many devices that can beat it on performance and security.

Last update for M8 coming in January. That's it. M9 is faster, smoother and camera is better except in low light. I have M8 HK, wife and kids have the M9. Even at low cost, don't do it. Better stuff available and coming down the line.
