Half of old text conversations have disappeared on Samsung Galaxy7.

I use a Samsung Galaxy 7. I've never deleted anything from a text conversation with one of my contacts, yet if I scroll back past a few months, their side of the conversation has disappeared, although any images or media files they sent are still available. Is there any way that I can restore these messages? I checked my setting and it was set to backup on the AT&T Cloud, yet I don't seem to be able to go past three months ago.

Did you turn the delete old messages off setting? By default the device only keeps a certain number of messages per thread, and a certain number of MMS, and deletes everything else.
