Hancent keeps playing wrong notification sound

it keeps playing a song from my mp3 collection, even though the settings say it shouldn't. Should I re install it ?

That would be the best choice. The other would be to clear cache and/or data from the app in question.

Make sure you have notifications disabled in your stock messaging app. If you don't then that notification will play instead of Handcent.
