Handcent setup, hiding conversations in list

My Pixel 3 XL battery started swelling and burst the seams of the phone. I'm a bit annoyed they're making me pay to replace it, for something that is certainly not negligence.

Anyway, the transfer has been going mostly smoothly. But, I've hit one issue with Handcent. I see a conversation in the list view. I tap it and go in. Then, I back out to the list. And, Handcent immediately hides the conversation from the list. I want to see everything in reverse chronological order

I've gone through the settings at least three times. I've had both the old and new phone next to each other and scrolled through every settings page that could possibly be it. I've search with several search phrases and haven't found anyone who has described this.

I'm sure it's a simple setting that I've now skimmed past six times. Can anyone help me?

I think I've figured it out.

I've tried four times to transfer my messages to the new device. But, not all of them are making it. For example, one person that I chat with daily, the last message transferred was from October. So, I think the order of the list is fairly random, and after I go into one and back out, it's getting rearranged in proper order, and moving off screen.

I'm a bit of a pack rat, and I'd prefer to keep everything. But, I suppose I can live without them.
