Handcent SMS pop up issues

I am having issues with the pop up text message window. Sometimes when I do a quick reply or just close the message the screen will go blank and all I can see is the wallpaper. I can not unlock the phone so I am forced to restart it every time. I do not have a password and just use the unlock slider. At first it only happened every so often but now it seems to be happening more frequently. I was wondering if anyone is having the same issue? I know i can just turn the pop up off and it will be okay but I like the convenience when I am using it I switched to Kraven's CM7 recently and thinking that might be the issue. I had no issues but found the pop up very annoying so I disabled it.
