Hands-on experiences at brick and mortar stores--reader thoughts (S6/S6E preference)?

Asked this question on the S6 page, but thought I'd post here too since my question pertains to either phone.

If you've gotten a chance to get some hands-on time with the S6 and/or S6E, I'm interested in hearing what reader thoughts are on the two new phones. I'm leaning towards the S6E, but its cost bump and in-hand feel are leaving me somewhat undecided. Cost isn't that big of an issue and I'm hoping that a slim case will help with the "sharpness" of the edge and still keep the phone slim.

I was leaning towards the Edge myself but in the end went with the regular S6. There are just not enough features for the Edge right now, some things look a little wonky on the edge such as text. If the Edge did more than just color coded contacts like pull up recent apps with a swipe from one of the sides to the middle I would maybe go with it. Maybe ill go to it when the S7 Edge comes out and they have more functionality to the Edge parts.

I went with the S6E myself because even if not well-leveraged right now, I'm mildly optimistic that near-future updates will flesh out possible uses for the edges. And, if nothing else I'm a dev so it would be a fun thing to play around with on my own. (e.g. I have Phillips Hue lights and it might be nice to always have my lighting scenes available on an edge for quick selection.)

The s6 edge to me doesnt feel bad in the hand. However, once you pick up the s6 after, you will notice that that phone just feels better because of its smaller amount of heft and because the screen doesnt slope. However I will be getting the s6 edge because its a real looker. A head turner for sure. No one will ever confuse it with any other phone.

Just played with both at best buy. Have to say I was really looking forward to the edge and it is gorgeous. Looks really cool and handles well with Hamburger menu, etc but I have to say the regular s6 feels better by comparison. It's a tad thicker on the sides and smooth where the edge is sharper. I don't have a clue which you buy!

From my experience what I see being a problem with the Edge - after playing with it - is that your palm will often rest on the curve part of the display, which interferes with touch response when you try to tap something. Myself and a friend had this happen to us while using it. At first we thought it was a software glitch until we noticed that the lightest touch of your palm is causing the problem. It forces you to try to hold the already slippery device in an awkward way so as not to accidentally touch it with your palm.

Next up I found the Edge's novelty just wore off too fast. It doesn't offer (me) much use and I thought the curve look on some apps took away and actually distorted the view of what you're looking at.

While the Edge looks more sleek and futuristic it just doesn't offer (me) enough value to get it.

The regular S6 is more practical definitely. It feels like a Nexus 4 and an iPhone 6 had a baby. Not necessarily a bad thing. But I will say the dark colors look terrible after use. Fingerprint madness.

Camera is very impressive indeed and outshines its competition handily. Software is still too cartoony for my tastes and I think it takes away from the otherwise nice aesthetics. It performed decently, but it did crash while I was learning its new features. Completely bare bones only with what it came with. Samsung also made a mistake including that clean sweep app or whatever. If you use it you will notice the phone performs terribly for a while after as it is depending on cache memory for its performance it seems. That's not going to sit well with people who don't know better and don't know what's going on.

Overall though it still feels like a Samsung product, but with glass. To me that's bad because they didn't improve enough to break the negative sentiments I have with their products. For others this will be a good thing.

I got to see both of them today with my daughter. She (15) was very impressed. I was impressed too until I flipped them over and saw the HUGE PLASTIC Wart of the camera. It struck me. It left me feeling that I'm glad I have the phones I have and won't be getting the S6 or S6E. Other than the Huge Wart the phones look nice to me.

Same exact thing as me. No doubt the regular S6 felt better in the hand, but decided to go with the S6 for the cool factor. Also, if I end up putting it in a case, the bezel on the edge will get a little bigger and might feel a little more like the regular S6.

I actually may try to bring in the spigen ultra hybrid cases that I own for the regular and the edge and put them on the devices to see how they feel. Due to the plug in the bottom I won't be able to put it on all the way but maybe I can get it on enough to get a feel for the sides and volume rockers.

I as well went by Best Buy tonight to have a hands on. I thought both felt great in hand. I would not give a second thought about feel in the hand just a slight difference in my mind. I did like the display of the edge better because of less of a bezel. Very nice look to the screen in the store, meaning beautiful colors. No lag on the store model. Impressive sound with headphones!

I Pre-ordered an 64GB Edge.

Just a note the first 200,000 pre-orders get the free wireless charger. If we find out in the next two weeks that the battery sucks, you don't have to accept the phone. 32GB = 200$ 64GB = 300$ 128GB = 400$ on contract

BTW the guy said that his manager had a pre-production model and battery life was 2 days. Lots of salt added, your experience may vary.

I was dead set on the regular s6 until I played with the edge today. It looks amazing and it felt great in the hand, to me at least. I love the curve and thought the phone was very fast. Easily the best screen I've ssen on a phone. To me they should've just released the edge.

Your able to pre-order for Verizon at BestBuy right now.

Crap...When did that change? Yesterday, everything on their website and in-store said 4/1 for Verizon.

EDIT: sandoff is right. Just got back from my Best Buy and now have mine ordered for Verizon. The manager said Verizon availability came down around 6PM last night.

I played with both this morning at Best Buy. While the S6 probably feels better in the hand, the Edge is damn sexy. I preordered a 64GB black. The Edge is the nicest looking phone I have seen in a long time.

Have to agree here. The S6 is extremely comfortable in hand and is a gorgeous phone in it's own right, but the Edge...well the Edge is probably the coolest phone I've ever seen.

Had my heart set on the edge this whole time. Went back to best buy today to handle them a second time and ended up pre-ordering a regular 32 GB black S6. The regular is just that much better feeling, I didn't want to get burned when the novelty of the edge wears off and get stuck with a phone I didn't completely like. I'm really glad best buy has them out and takes Verizon pre-orders otherwise I would have ordered the wrong one without playing with them first. I have no regrets, I'll love the regular s6.

Edit. The edge is indeed a gorgeous, jaw dropper. It's every bit of wow factor and cool looking phone everyone says. Unfortunately, handling it doesn't seem worth it to me.

So, in conclusion, if you had a choice, will you go for S6 or M9? I'm currently an HTC user as well. Debating whether Samsung's hardware is worth it for me to switch to an interface I'm not as familiar with.

For what it's worth I have the m8 and I'm switching to the edge.
