Hangouts Update

Anyone know when the update to Hangouts that integrates SMS will go out?

I think there is an apk out now that was extracted from 4.4. I think it's on phandroid.

could you describe the Hangouts/SMS feature?

I seem to be able to send SMSs to cell numbers from Hangouts on a PC

I'm using Hangouts 2.0 with SMS. From what I've seen so far these past two days, it is nothing like iMessage (like everyone had been predicting).

It's essentially just a replacement SMS app, just like GO SMS pro or something like that. I only have 3 people who used Hangouts before, and nothing has changed. I still talk to those three people via the hangouts IM, and then everyone else it just sends as SMS. However, with those three people, it will not automatically switch between IM and SMS like iMessage would. I can manually flip between the IM and SMS threads though.

If anything, it's just convenient to have my conversations in one place. Plus I enjoy the hangouts layout/animations more than the stock SMS app. And I can use emojis now too.

TLR Its not an iMessage for android, but I enjoy it nonetheless.

i installed the apk file but it randomly force closes, cant figure out what the deal is. Anyone have any ideas.

When I get an MMS message, hangouts won't work. I have to restart my phone in order to get it to work properly after someone sends me an MMS
