Why is hangouts so laggy for SMS on the moto g, I don't like using the stock SMS app but I just can't use hangouts.

Don't want to use any third party app as I would prefer an all in one solution as I use it for video calls with the family.

Is there anything that can be done to speed it up when it launches.

Hello! What lag are you seeing?

Slow message sending, or is the overall UI laggy for you?

When I open the app it takes ages for all the conversations to appear.

Mine is pretty quick. If you are saving the conversations it takes time for the data to reload. If you are not interested in saving those delete them and see if that speeds things up.

I would go into system Settings >> Apps >> All >> Hangouts >> Clear Cache

then into Google play store to uninstall Hangouts, switch phone off, and then install the app again.

i would also do what has already been said about conversations.. though clearing cache may delete those.

I think it's taking to long to load the app because I think it takes a while to load my contact picture from Google+ as well as the conversations, do you guys think that's possible.

Usually the profile pics are cached. it shouldnt take that long

I have had to switch to the old stock SMS app as that is fast, maybe hangouts will be better with a future update.

Also note I think Hangouts just got an update too. Has it gotten better sense?

anyone had any issues sending messages or the other person receiving them I have read that people are having issues but not sure if been sorted.

I think it could be kit kat on this phone as some other apps are starting to show signs of lag as well.
