Hardware failure?

My note 3 screen won't auto rotate even if I turn the auto rotate on. Then if I check the sensors status by using app like phone test, I can see all sensors not working. But after a reboot, everything works fine. But after about 1 hour to couple of hours, it fails again (all sensors not working). I am so confused because I thought it's a hardware problem but reset does solve the problem but not for long.

My phone is KNOX tripped so I took it to Samsung service centre in London and they refused to repair it. The thing is they didn't even let me know they wouldn't repair it until I came after couple of days to them to ask how was going on with my phone after I gave them to check several days ago. I am really disappointed with their service.

I have manually flashed latest stock ROM but the problem still exists.

Anything I can do?

Unfortunately, there isn't much else you can do. Given that a factory reset and clean ROM flash don't resolve the problem, it's likely a hardware failure of some sort. This is regrettably a manufacturer's warranty issue.

Patrick is probably right, but as a quick and easy check, I would install another launcher like Nova and see if that helps.

There are 2 sensor tests in this screen service code thingy. *#0*#

Sensor hub test gives a pass or a fail after a short wait, Sensor test gives you a running readout on most sensors. I know nothing about it apart from that. @SebasCvdB pointed me to it for an S-Pen test.
You can see if some hardware is not working.
I live in London and would be interested in which service centre you went to. Possibly one that services other makes.

Hi Mad54, I went to the one at Westfield. I thought it's the flagship? In sensors test, I got no read from several sensors, gyro, temp, etc. Sensor hub test is passed.

Anyway, I am going to try another service center tomorrow. If this won't fix this will be my last samsung device. Can't believe I paid 5xx pounds on this and they don't fix it because of some KNOX .which I don't need at all.

Westfield is the only one I know. I didn't think Knox applied here. I don't think mine is activated. Good luck.

Speaking of that service code thing, *#0*# I try that on my Verizon phone and nothing happens. What gives!

I may have heard that. Mine is factory. Possibly some carriers lock it out.

I'm thinking Verizon locks it out.
On the videos the call board has blue buttons with black background. My board is all white with black outline. (Ugly board)

Not sure what you mean. Can you get something like above.
**OK Gotcha. Phone keyboard and call log is like mine in Sam video, blue on black, and Verizon have put their own scheme. No service numbers then. There were 1 or 2 others but they must be locked as well. You're probably getting a better overall deal than me though. :)

Ugh! Do not like that AT all! What did you do to Verizon?
Still I guess looking on an actual screen it may be not so bad.
Blue on Black is a bit utilitarian and its been like that for years on Samsung's.
So on second thoughts I could get used to it. Thanks for showing. :)

Called Samsung customer service today told them Westfield refused to repair. They said they would send me a prepaid envelope and I should send my phone to them. I thought Westfield was like their headquarter but seems not. Don't know what they will do if they see my phone is rooted.

It happened since I manually flashed a rom (kitkat) in February. Don't remember the version. I though my phone wouldn't be updated via OTA because mine is rooted. But then couple of days ago when i saw UK just got update via OTA on 11 March then I flashed with that room but still no good.

That's something. I was thinking they probably don't service at Stratford until you said. Wondered where the service centre was. I hope they sort it under warranty. I don't know how they look on rooting though, mine isn't, but if it's faulty they shouldn't try to get out of it. Good luck.

Just an update. This finally got sorted by Samsung service centre. Sent to them last Tuesday and they sent me back today. I am still testing, seems all working. They didn't ask me about rooting or tripped knox. The phone is still knox tripped but anyway they repaired the hardware. They didn't mention what repair they have done.

8-9 day turnaround then, or a week really, by post. I hope it's sorted and I take it it's the same phone.
As it happens my screen has rotated a few times recently when the switch was off.

If you have a minute, can you get back as I am keen to know what would happen in my case.
Mine was a sealed UK/EU factory version, Amazon supplied, but I bought it on eBay from a good private seller. I registered it with Samsung online, I already had a GS2 registered on the account.
Do you remember what information they asked before they accepted it for repair? Just an IMEI, or a date and place of purchase etc.
I would not have an Amazon receipt, and normally Amazon would handle it if I bought it on my Amazon account.
I take it you did not get it from a network or you would have tried there first. Thanks.

I bought from a online retailer and it's beyond one month so they suggest me to find sumsung directly. So I did. But the service center I went refused to repair because my phone was rooted. I then called (the number on their website) and told the service center refused to repair. They didn't ask anything just let me send the phone to them and didn't ask anything.

Very good. Thanks very much. :)
