alot of people were saying they didnt want to root until a safety net for bricking became available. it was some sort of image file or backup. I felt that was a good idea and have decided to wait to root my bionic. my question is has the backup or whatever it is called come out yet

I say just go for it. I did it the other day and its extremely straightforward and simple. It took less than 5 minutes. I was also in the group that was going to wait for a .sbf file, but I just decided to go with it.

I don't believe one has come around yet.

I wouldn't take that advice.

@OP: Check the stickies here:
Droid Bionic Android Development - xda-developers

The "SBF" file is now called FXZ. We have custom recovery as well as a full factory reset.

Its out been posted on AC mdw xda rootzwiki. We have a bootstrap which gets a clockwork recovery and there fore we can make Nan backups and do restore

First time rooting so kinda confused, do you only use this after you've bricked your phone or before messing with anything?

you use the FXZ file after you've bricked it........and/or if you've messed it up in a way where you want to return to stock
