has anybody here with the moto droid tried this

i was wandering around the web on droid forums and then i saw this on alldroid and it looks really interesting and could be the one thing to make me root my droid. it's called the x-hero theme which as you can tell by the name.... it looks like the hero haha. right now im on the edge of going for it or just saying screw it and just pass on it. if anybody here has tried it or wants to try it, could you let me know how you like it and how stable it is.

im so close to saying FU@K IT and just do it but my gut instinct keeps saying to pass haha.

My general advice is only mess with Rooting and ROMs if you know what you are doing, and you have a need to change major stuff on your phone.

Saying that, you cannot do worse than check out Paul's work over at Motorola Milestone / Droid - Milestone.MoDaCo.com - Android @ MoDaCo. Milestone is just the UK name for the Moto Droid, BTW...

I'm just hesitant to hack my Droid. I totally hacked my BB and it was always a mess. I think the reason for all of the battery pulls, memory leaks, just... issues. Was that I ran a leaked, hybrid OS, removed vendor codes, etc. It worked every day - but, it required a lot of effort on my part. Near the end, it just got tired. That's why I came to Droid. It's refreshing to be on a stable OS, warranty in place, everything just works.

I guess until a time comes that I ask Droid to do something that it's just NOT able to do and I NEED root to accomplish the task - I just don't want to start the whole hack experience.

Also, the loss of OTA updates once rooted is holding ne back.

In my opinion, a theme is NOT a reason to root. I changed my BB theme about every 2-3 weeks (some I made, some free, some paid for). No matter how sweet a theme is, you'll bore of it and want something different in a few weeks - NOT worth rooting (for me).

ya i completely agree. that why i am hesitent as well. i just wanted to see what everybody thought about it whether they have already tried it or are going to try it. i want to know if it was worth it before i even attempted it. it does look amazing though, im not gonna lie haha.

overall i just want to know if it is worth it from the experience of others.

Well I for one had to root lol. It's the nerd in me I guess and I did try the xHero Theme and was really impressed. I had a little going through the motions of metamorph and all do get it running but when I did I really liked it. The only problem I had is I'm a theme freak and there aren't any developers doing root themes like that. So probably about a day and a half later I took the plunge into rooted OS 2.1 and have been messing with ROMs every since lol.
