Android Central Question

Pioneer seem to have left us punters high and dry with support for the Pioneer XDP-100R.

The device runs android 5 so there's no android auto. I can connect the XDP-100R via Bluetooth and keep it charge with a usb cable to a 12v source but there is no way to control the player.

I'm long-sighted so I have trouble reading things like my phone or the XDP-100R without putting on my glasses. Trying to touch things on the XDP-100R screen while driving is positively dangerous.

I was just wondering if anyone has been able to successfully root this device to upgrade the OS?

Your best bet would probably be to head over to the xda developers website, they are the best source for rooting and installing custom roms to get old devices updated.

Hi, I am thinking to buy a used xdp-100r, however I am a bit hesitant due to the super old android 5.1

I suppose the apps can’t be upgraded any longer and you are using the old versions without problem?

That device looks like it's strictly an audio player. Android Auto functionality would require cellular connectivity, and if you're going to set up a hotspot on your phone why not just plug the phone in to the head unit?

As for @Chance Chance2 - yes, you're going to have a lot of trouble getting modern apps to work on that device and older apps MAY work (if you can get them installed) but if they connect to web services you may not get that part to work due to their age.
