My understanding was that the DROID 3 wasn't going to be released until Thursday in retail stores, but it doesn't show as an "online only" offer on Verizon's website. Has anyone had success buying this from Best Buy or a Verizon corporate location?

We are not allowed to sell it till 7/14. We won't even have the shipment till Wednesday.

yea, I went to the vzw store, asked if they at least had a demo model I could look at. I was told that it was so far only released in china. I told him people were ordering it online, but I wanted to get it from a retail store instead. His eyes widened and he turned around to start looking at the vzw website...

Thats unfortunate that you guys run into people like that. At my store, we are well aware of everything that goes on. I already have 7 people coming in on launch day for a d3.
Im really hoping there isnt a problem on Thursday. I got my Dinc2 on the 4th, before I read the D3 was coming out. Im going to return it for the 3, but that will be day 10 of 14, so I hope I dont run into a problem at the store. I hate having to wait until Thursday, but I dont think telesales can do a return over the phone.
I stopped by my local corporate store today because doing the online order for an upgrade was horribly messed up. The sales dude knew about the phone, placed the order for me while I was in the store (will arrive on 7/12), and let me play with the demo model. He hadn't seen it (the demo model) yet, but asked another salesman about it, I got to hold it up side-by-side with my Storm 2 and was ready to toss the S2 into the toilet! After I played with it, the salesman had his turn with it, held it up with his X2 and was quite impressed. Then he tried to sell me some accessories, but had to take them off because they aren't showing as being available until 7/14.
I went into the store expecting similar "D3? What's that?" responses, but was happy to find someone that knew their product.

Just got off the phone with my store... I asked if they had the D3 in stock yet, and if it will be ready for Thursday, and she said, "Uh, what?" Never even heard of it.

thats one thing i really hate about Verizon. the inconsistency. i'm not sure if the local stores are playing dumb because they know they can't sell it. or if they really haven't heard of it. i feel like they should know a phone in and out when it is launching Thursday.
They had them at my local VZW kiosk today at teh mall. I didn't ask if I could buy, but they let me play with one for a few minutes. They even opened a box for me since they didn't have any out yet.

MyI agree! The vzw employees at the location close to me havea serious lack of product knowledge. I went in on 7/7 to order the phone. The salesmen didn't even know it was available for ordering. I chose the overnight option because I couldn't wait. He then tried to bait me by saying that if I brought it in, he would activate it. He really just wanted to check it out in person. No worries, I'm happy.
yeah had same thing happen. Was asking if they had any but the chick said that they would be in sometime this week..... way to be vague LOL. Almost tempted to get one online for my wife
I went to a vzw store, they said they had some in stock and seemed ready to sell one to me. But I'm waiting for costco so I can get my cash back, and 90 days in case bionic is that much better.
I stopped into my local Verizon store last Friday7/8. I am interested in the Droid 3 because of the tactile keyboard. I text frequently. I asked about Droid 3 and sales associate said they had a dummy I could see. It seem like a nice feel, and he said I could order for delivery Weds 7/13 which I did. While in order and paper process another associate brought out the real deal that he was activating for himself. I was going to wait on Bionic but after seeing the Droid 3 and the keyboard I jumped immediately I am very happy with my decision
90 days is only to replace the same exact model unless you are buying off contract.
I went to my local VZW store last Friday. They ordered it for me right then and there and sent it FedEx Saturday delivery. Phone was $149.99 + $19.99 shipping. Total after sales tax (9%) was $185.28. Pretty awesome. They may not know anything initially, but if you tell them that it is in the system to order. If you're upgrading, it would be worth their while b/c that's how they make commissions: activations.

But you can do that through the VZW website without having to bother.
Personally, I?m only interested in knowing how soon the stores will have working handsets to play with.

Just called my local store to ask if they had one to play with yet. The kid said, ?Funny enough we just got our review sample and I?m playing with it now. You can come and look at it, but I don?t think we can sell it to you yet.?
