Has anyone here held a Galaxy S II?

A cousin from south america let me play with his galaxy S II yesterday. I gotta say the phone is dead sexy. However, it feels very awkward in hand.

I'm not a photon LOVER, but i do enjoy the photon. It works, and it works well. Also, IMO feels wayy better in hand that the GSII. Anyone else have this experience?

This is my "target" phone if I return my Photon this week. In what ways does it feel awkward?

The way I hold my Photon: Right hand, pinkie under bottom, 3 fingers around back, and thumb on the side (to use on the screen) actually results in the phone "slipping" along my pinkie a little bit since the bottom is very smooth. It hasn't become a problem, just forces me to tilt the phone back a little more.

I'm curious, too. I specifically delayed picking the Photon up in hopes that Sprint's GSII (I hate the name Epic Touch) would be released during my 30 day window. I like the Photon, especially how good it feels in the hand (unlike the Evo 3D, with its huge camera button and 2D/3D switch poking my hand).

First I should say, I'm 5'6, my hands aren't very big.

With the photon, when I grab it with my right hand, I can hold it firmly and securely with my middle and index fingers wrapping around to the other end of th ephone. My pinky supports the lower end of the phone.

The GSII was MUCH thinner and MUCH wider than the MoPho. It was difficult to get a FIRM grip on the phone while still being able to use my pinky to navigate the gorgeous touchscreen.

Again, don't get me wrong, the Phone was stunning, just awkward to hold. It MAY also have to do with it being so new to me....S

Yungwunn911,

Thanks for the update, sounds like you hold the phone similar to the way I do but would have a tougher time with something that is "wider". I'm 6'4" so i don't think I would have as much trouble with the grip. Appreciate the feedback though cause I'm dying to see how it feels.

It isn't much wider than an EVO 4G and it is thinner.

Put a case on it...something simple like a TPU and enjoy the best phone there is at the moment once it comes out.

Honestly, if I hadn't gone through 3 photons all with issues I'd still be using one for one reason...the call quality / earpiece was wonderful...when it worked. The screen drove me nuts but I would have lived with it.

I would have a hard time buying anything from samsung after the weak radio issues i had with my nexus s. Not to mention how slow they have been updating all there other phones. I think the nexus s is one of the best phones that i have ever used except for the extremely weak radios it has. I guess I'm a little turned off by samsung and there customer service.

I'm with you. The call quality/earpiece is absolutely fantastic. By far the best I have ever heard. It keeps coming back to that second part "...when it worked". I'm shocked this is such a widespread problem. I think everyone agrees its software related, since a reboot fixes it (temporarily), however if it was simple to fix I feel like the MR would have been pushed out ASAP. 3 weeks with a "non-phone" phone, is tough, especially for an enterprise user. Samsung Epic Touch 4G (I'm going to keep calling it Galaxy S2) will get a shot.

The best way to get the "feel" of Sprint's GSII variant will be to walk into an AT&T store or Best Buy and pick up an Infuse. I have a feeling the form factors are going to be very similar.

I am too thinking about returning my Photon for S2. Wanted S2 first and then didn't think it be here till Oct Nov.

Here are the measurements. Moto 66.9 x 125.9 x 12.2 The S2 is 66.1 x 125 x 8.5, therefore the S2 is smaller in every measurement. These are the new Sprint version measurements. Not sure why your friends S2 was different than your Moto.

Will be interesting to see how they added a slightly larger screen into a smaller frame.

After owning and operating a Samsung Epic I would NEVER own another Samsung phone period!

Hmm.. According to sprint, the measurements (in inches) are:
Moto: 2.6" x 5.0" x 0.5"
Epic Touch: 5.1" x 2.7" x 0.4"
So Sprint says that the sammy is 0.1" taller and wider and 0.1" thinner.

Where did you get your dimensions? They're similar but not the same as the wikipedia links for each phone. I'd generally defer to Sprint's page, but that same page says that the photon has a 1700 mah battery, and mine is pretty clearly a 1650 mah battery.

The weak radio in the Nexus was a software issue...not hardware.

If its a software issue and not a hardware issue one would think it would have been fixed by now. Coming from a nexus s no g i can tell you the photon is far far far (did i say far?) Better when it comes to signal acquisition, droped/missed calls and data speeds. I had 2 of them and several co workers still have them. The radios on the nexus s are a joke and should be recalled! Worst reception i have ever seen on a Sprint phone!

Those specs are from the European galaxy 2. Sprints version is much thicker than 8.5mm. The Epic Touch 4g is definitely larger than the photon.

The Nexus S weak signal is definitely working much better with the recent Sprint/ Samsung update. It's actually pretty for right now ( comparable to my Htc Evo 4g). It will never come close to the Photon. It's one area that Samsung is still behind Motorola and Nokia, signal strength and call quality.

Somewhere (can't find the link) I read that the Epic Touch will use the exact same 4G/Wimax radio as the Nexus S 4G does. Yes, the update seemed to fix the speed problem, but I wonder if the new Epic will go through the same round of lowered speed that the Nexus had to endure?
