Has anyone installed the Google Cam app in their phone?

Yeah that all sounds great and stuff but I can't find it on the Play Store so it's a "no go" for me...

So I followed your link, thank you by the way, and looked over the article. I was trying to figure out how anyone was getting away with using the name Google if it wasn't truly Google, so I Googled the app. As it turns out it "was" a Google app. According to Wikipedia "It was publicly released for Android 4.4+ on the Google Play Store on April 16, 2014[2] and removed from public view on Feb 17, 2016." There's no information on why they pulled it. The article ends up with a little summery about attempts to port it backwards to older models and this quote, "Because the Google hardware’s advanced features are not available in other devices, the GCam app has been reverse-engineered and modified to make it compatible with other phones." I'm still curious how they are able to still call it Google since it is obvious that it is not the pure and original app but never the less it is not an actual Google offering and not being offered on the Play Store would indicate that it is not or at least no longer sanctioned by Google. On the other hand they haven't made them pull the Google name so I'm not really sure how to take that either...

Well...they're not really calling it "Google". It's "GCam"!

I hope someone here will give it a try and let us know how it works!
