Hi,

Has anyone ever done this? Here's the thing-- I returned my white Galaxy S3 so I could wait for the red one. When I got the purchase price back for the phone (minus the restocking fee, of course), I noticed that the upgrade date didn't roll back. I called AT&T and they informed me that I have reached my return limit. I have also tried a Blackberry Torch 9810 and a Lumia 900 (That one twice, actually. There is a story behind that but its beside the point). So anyway, I wish I would have known this before I sent the white GS3 back because now I've essentially upgraded that line without a subsidized phone to show for it. I guess I always thought as long as you are willing to take a hit on the activation fee and the restocking fee that you were free to try phones until you found one to suit you! I guess thats not the case. LOL! Anyway, the rep "put in a case" to have my upgrade date rolled back and I should hear by Friday. I really hope they give me one more chance. Of course, if they do let me go ahead and order the red GS3, I'll definately be keeping that one for the whole contract! :p If they decline, would you try to escalate, cancel the line or just chalk it up as "I f-ed up and now I'm stuck with no upgrade"?

Everytime someone returns a phone it costs the companies money. They now have to sell it as a rwfurb phone at a lower price. So having a limit helps to prevent someone from changing phones every 29 days or less.

Return limit and they charge a 35 dollar restocking fee. And OP, you must love wasting money. I don't see why you need to try out so many phones.

No I don't like wasting money, but I don't want to be stuck with a phone for two years if it sucks. For example, with a Carl Zeiss lens on the Lumia 900 would you have guessed the camera blows?

I'm not saying there shouldn't be a limit. I understand perfectly well that it costs them money (it costs me money too), I'm just saying they should be more up front about it. They aren't shy to tell you that you can return the phone within 30 days but they don't tell you its counting against you. On my receipt for the GS3 it says the return policy is on the back of the receipt. On the back of the receipt it doesn't say there is a return limit. It does say "for complete return policy go to www.att.com/returnpolicy". I didn't find the return limit there, either.

I know I'm responsible for being in this situation for trying too many phones and I didn't ever specifically ask at any time if there is a limit. However, I think if they expect me to follow their policy, I should be able to find it.

I work at radioshack and our policy on phones is we'll replace or return a defective phone no problem. However if the phone isn't defective you get one swap. Unlike AT&T we don't charge an instore restocking fee.

I returned my hox for the s3. And they never charged me the $35 restocking fee at my local corporate store. Then I pre ordered the s3.

tlo07: I just wanted to thank you for making us aware that a limit existed. I tend to spend a lot of time in phone stores trying out the phones while in the actual store, so I've never actually had to return a phone, but it's interesting to know that they have an undocumented limit in case I end up with a couple of "looked good in the store, sucks when I get it home" issues sometime.

I've actually ran into the limit as well... I hit my limit with an htc vivid which really Sucked... But yea they don't tell you there a limit and it's not written any where either

Its still good to know this. I wouldn't blow that kinda money out of no where. But I do know some people that do!

Did you have to pay full retail for your One X then?
