I don't know when this started. Perhaps it was when I upgraded my phone to the S8+ but I cannot get voice-to-text to work inside the texting app on the Gear S2. S voice works, but it will not within the texting app. This sucks, because that's the only place I really ever used it with this device.

I went through tech support with Samsung and they said the unit must be defective, so they were going to have me ship it to them, but I decided to get it replaced through Verizon. Anyway, much to my disappointment, this new Gear S2 is doing the exact same thing.

Did it updated with the latest gear software? Mines not doing that, but mine overheated yesterday and I saw a message "S2 Cooling down which concerned me. I did a full reset on it and it's been ok for now. Luckily I'm within a year on it so if it happens again it should be covered by warranty

Yes, I have the latest updates. Apparently this looks more like a glitch with the software than a hardware issue. I'm just not sure if it's related to pairing with the S8+ or a glitch altogether.

Can anyone reading this test and see if voice to text works within your texting app? It is bizzare in that I can playing with S Voice all day and no issues, but I can't create or respond to texts using voice to text. Typing on the S2 is no treat.

I seem to be having that problem since the update as well. If I go into the S2 messaging app and hit the microphone to reply, it shows it's hearing my voice fluctuate, but it isn't showing any text. Interestingly if I start from the s-voice widget and ask to send a message it does actually record the text and send it ok that way. Hopefully they fix this soon, I don't reply to texts a lot through the S2 but this would be really annoying if I had to reply with something other than the canned replies.

Exactly. You've just described my thoughts on this as well... When I'm driving and my phone was left in my jacket or in my pocket, it's much easier and safer for me to tap reply>microphone and then just do a quick voice to text message.

Samsung techs aren't aware of this, at least not the one I spoke with. She had me change to English (UK) in the settings, but it didn't work, so she then said it must be a faulty unit. I did an exchange through Verizon for a new S2 and same problem exists.
