I searched settings and Google with no joy.
Nothing in settings and to many unmatched results on the Google.

How can I have the keyboard show automatically when appropriate?

Can you give an example or two of the appropriate time you are expecting a keyboard but not getting one?

I opened Samsung browser to Google.com and as soon as I tap the search box I get a keyboard. I tap the address bar and also get a keyboard.

When I open the message app and tap the text box it opens the keyboard. If I tap for a new message, it goes to the line for me to enter the recepient name and opens the keyboard.

This is the situation I was hoping for.
When I open the messages app and then select a thread that contains no new messages, I was hoping there is a way to have the keyboard already open, instead of having to tap on the text box for the keyboard to show.
I may be dreaming, but I thought I had this, in the past, with deterrent apps / phones. Perhaps it was a setting in one particular SMS app or in Gravity Box.
