Has Samsung lost some of it's "power"?

Brand-recognition will always play a big role, especially in the smartphone industry. It's up to us wise consumers to decide which is better for us. I want to indulge myself with an HTC One, but I honestly don't find HTC's Sense skin too appealing. Plus, BlinkFeed veers too much into WP's famed "Modern UI" interface.

IMO, I'd rather wait until stable AOSP ROMs for either of these two devices to come out before buying one of them, as you'd already have the option to stay OEM stock or go with the vanilla android experience.

You broke 2 S3's and a Note 2? You either need to check yourself with how you treat devices, or you were hoping to prove that Samsung sucked so you were overly careless. I guarantee I could break 3 Apple devices by being careless and then I could spin it as "Apple phones are not durable." I never take someone else's experience on durability into account because i've seen how some people treat electronics compared to how I do. And I wouldn't be too confident in any device after only having it a week. Especially with your history of breaking phones.

What the hell kind of comment is this?? Not one of them broke due to me bring careless, in fact I didn't even drop one of them twice. They were all hardware issues and not from abuse so before you go around accusing of something know your story and facts. I even said that samsung makes good products and I wasn't bashing on them by any means. My whole point was that everyone has quality issues and not just htc. Look at the whole iPhone 4 fiasco. They had all sorts of issues and they continue to even with the 5. When you are mass producing any product at that scale you are going to see issues.

Finding a black iPhone 5 without any sort of blemish is akin to finding a white buffalo.

It's funny how samsung users are just like apple users and are just as blind. I can never see how anyone has such an allegiance to any of these companies that don't want to do anything but take our money, track our data so they can take our money again. I can give a crap about HTC, Samsung, Google, Apple, etc.... I'm using any device whenever I like regardless of who makes it.

Really? Its personal preference and what works for the user. I have had 3 HTC devices and ended up with issues on all 3. Its ashame because I thought they were solid. I haven't had any problems with my Samsung. Going on 5 months. So after 3 separate bad experiences I chose another mfg.

Same thing I was saying about a year ago it was about software, especially when u want up against iPhone ppl,now its crazy for me to hear plastic this plastic that from android ppl to discredit Samsung phones...HTC fanboys is the new apple fanboys, so secretly they loved iPhone metal design lol

A fanboy calling others fanboys,to each his own,in the end both phones will have it's strengths and weakness,if you buy a phone soley on sales your a sheep, the one reason i have chosen HTC over Samsung, for the screen, but if samsung has figured out a way to improve the dim, tinted, saturated screen i might just switch, but that is my opinion and needs.

I think the more interesting question would be if devices like the HTC One convince Samsung to change the materials they use in the S5 or whatever the next flagship Samsung device will be. I went for the S4 over the One and still am not entirely convinced I made the right choice but it was a choice I had to make!

I think you'll see it in the Note III. IMHO, the Note signifies a bit more risk for Samsung, so any adoption of "craziness" (ala, metal chassis lol) would occur there first.

Unless you're a hardcore fanboy on way or another it looks like both devices should be pretty awesome. Hope you enjoy it

I didn't get that message of "every device has problems" from your post. So I was responding based on what your comment portrayed. It's cool now that you've clarified, but relax. Your first comment only sounded like a Samsung bashing. I see your point now though.

Thank you. I am pretty sure I will love it and if I had gone with the One then I am sure I would have thought the same and loved that. It was the removable battery and slightly bigger screen that won it for me in the end - well that and having to take less care of the phone when I place it on the table etc. Oh and no I am not a fanboy of any manufacturer or OS really. I think pretty much every platform has good and bad points and all the latest release devices are all epic!

Yeah I agree, they will have to try it in something even if it isn't the S5 (I made the name up but I may not be far off!!). It is likely that if they do the "premium feel" well with the specs of the time then with their budget for advertising then they will make money on it.

I just got the HTC one yesterday and it's an awesome phone. It looks great feels great in hand and performance is on another level. But unless HTC can market this beast it will not make an impact. I think HTC is really trying differentiate themselves with the design of the phone and software on it and for the most part it works. While coming from a note 2 I'm missing quite a bit of features but in return I get a more polished is that looks coherent in all it's parts

All Android fans should hope Samsung doesn't lose power. Rather let's hope that Motorola, LG, HTC and others gain more power. Ultimately it's Android against other operating systems. Samsung is currently Android's flagship. At this time should Samsung falter I'd ventures that the buying public would go to Apple or maybe even windows. Samsung's current power is keeping Android competitive with Apple and ahead of other systems. Android fans should support that. But Samsung can't sustain Android alone. Her other family members, such as HTC, have to step up and assume leadership positions also. Only then, with HTC, LG Nexus and others standing shoulder to shoulder can Android continue to rule the mobile kingdom for the foreseeable future.
